Thy Spirit (4): The True One
"“Go out and stand before me on the mountain,” the Lord told him. And as Elijah stood there, the Lord passed by, and a mighty windstorm hit the mountain. It was such a terrible blast that the rocks were torn loose, but the Lord was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake." (1Kings 19:11)
We need to be able to listen and watch out for and accurately detect the leading of God per time as Christians. This is not only important for our lives but being able to do this also shows that we are indeed the children of God our Father.
However, more often than not we need to fight several other factors that are trying to get our attention, these are distractions – they try to take our attention from God. Distractions are things or events that can make someone not concentrate or give enough attention to something or someone else, which is usually more important than the distractions themselves. From our text for today, we see how several events tried to distract Elijah from hearing the instructions that God has for Him. Thank God for His Spirit on Elijah that made him hear the gentle whisper.
Today we will be praying against these distractions so that we can accurately discern the will of God, hear His gentle whispers and feel his gentle nudges, and obey them so that we can walk in clarity of purpose.
Let us Pray:
Father, we thank you for Your love and grace that has made us beneficiaries of Your redemption through our Lord and Saviour — Jesus Christ.
We thank you Father because you want to lead us on the right way to go and bring us to the place of fulfillment of purpose and destiny in You.
Father, please give us active ears and eyes in the spirit so that we will be able to discern when You are leading us. We want to hear You when You speak to us, we want to see the things You are showing us and we want to feel Your nudges so that we will always be in Your perfect will.
Please, Father, help us to see beyond distractions and see into the actual substance You're showing us by your Spirit, help us to not listen to false voices and noises, but listen to only Your voice so that we will not be misled.
We thank you Father because we know that You hear us whenever we pray.
We ask all these in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen!!!
