Your Sight: Peace Within
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid" (John 14:27, KJV).
Sight is simply put — the ability to see. It is when a person can sense the lights and colors around them. Without sight, it might be difficult for a person to have a certain understanding of their immediate environment. Someone without sight might not be able to know from a distance if there is an obstacle on their path. They may need to rely on other people to give them that information or rely on other senses to realize that, but they will have to touch the obstacle to be able to know. Lack of sight is a major disability.
Today, we will be considering our sight as it relates to peace and the Word of God. When you look around what do you see? Do you see what God has said or do you see what the enemy is doing? Do you see the peace that God has promised His people or do you see the wickedness and tumult in the world? I would like us to bring to mind some of the things that God has said concerning His children and peace.
Firstly we will look at our anchor scripture again: John 14:27, Jesus Christ Himself has told us that His peace will remain with us, and not the kind of peace we see people of the world give, it is more like a peace that guarantees that your heart will not be troubled no matter what goes on the world, no matter the persecution. We see from this passage that apart from the promise of peace there is also a commandment to not let our hearts be troubled, it means we need to do this deliberately, we need to make our heart not be troubled, this is how we can experience the peace of God. To be able to successfully do this, we need the grace of God and the help of the Holy Spirit.
Secondly, our Lord Jesus Christ told us in Matthew 28:20 “teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (KJV). We are to continue in the assignments He has committed into our hands and not lose sight of the fact that He is right with us. He has not left us alone He is right here with us till the end of time. No matter what is happening and what we are going through, we should be always conscious of His presence with us.
How can we do this? if we can expose our hearts to the Words of God, the Holy Spirit will use them to teach us the ways of God and help us to live by them, keeping the eyes of our hearts centered on these powerful words. The words of God are powerful enough to make us see only the promises and assurance we have from God in them so that we will not be moved or discouraged by the troubles that are in the world.
Let us pray:
Father, we thank You for your Words, because they are Spirit and they are life. We thank You because Your Words never fail, and we know that by Your Holy Spirit we will be able to overcome the enemy and the world through them.
Father please, help us to meditate on Your words and live never lose sight of your promises for us. Please make us not just hearers or readers, but also doers of your Words, so that they will profit us, and through them, we will fight good warfare in this world.
Father, please let our hearts and sights stay on you so that we will not allow our hearts to be troubled by the world. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, we pray.
Amen.
