“Timothy, my dear son, live your life empowered by God’s free-flowing grace, which is your true strength, found in the anointing of Jesus and your union with him! 2 And all that you’ve learned from me, confirmed by the integrity of my life, pass on to faithful leaders who are competent to teach the congregations the same revelation” (2 Timothy 2:1-2, TPT)

Digital discipleship is a way of teaching where the church and other Christians use digital resources like podcasts, articles, videos, and letters via mail to disciple Christian and non-Christians alike. It’s also a way of communicating with people on Social Media.

According to our Bible verse, Jesus Christ has made us strong by his gift of undeserved grace, now he wants us to teach/tell the same thing to his followers. As Christians, we should not be picky and encourage discrimination in whom we extend ourselves but rather aim to spread Christ’s message to as many as possible. Our social media help us connect with a bigger audience that’s why we must feed our audience with the positive word ( the word of God )

The Bible has a lot of scriptures about how we should engage ourselves on Public square (social media) 2 Timothy 3:15-17 our social media should not be used for only posting our latest pictures or trends all the time it should also be used to trend Jesus word and also help to correct the scornful ones. As a disciple of Christ our work on earth is to preach the gospel in every nook and cranny we find ourselves. Jesus should not be only glorified in our hearts but also to be glorified on our social media too.

Being a Christian on social media

  1. Self-control: As a Christain, you must be careful, insightful, and thoughtful to control yourself, emotions and desires before taking anything to social media James 1:19-21, Titus 3:1-2. Always check your motives and think twice before posting. Don’t post out of frustration let your post and articles be directed by the help of the Holy Spirit. The lack of self-control is identified as a fruit of the flesh and not of the spirit (Galatians:22-23 )
  2. Accountability: it’s being responsible for one’s actions. Being a Christian on social media you’re accountable for whatever you post on your timeline. Do you post for fun? If so, ask yourself what is motivating your posts. Romans 12:1-2.
  3. Avoid senseless arguments: 2Timothy 22-24. Being a Christain on social media it’s not all conversations you should always interfere in. We are meant to be an example of Honour among the watching world. Let’s heed the warning and think before interfering in a conversation.
  4. Don’t seek awareness: Don’t let hashtags, likes, comments, and ‘follow for followers’ be the reason why you engage online. Don’t seek man’s approval seek God’s attention and approval. The goal of what we use our social media account is to edify one another and also for the betterment of others and not for the expansion of our platform and building fame. Romans 14:19

In conclusion, let your light so shine before men so that they may see your good work and glorify your Father who is in heaven Mathew 5:16. Let our social media be used in Honoring God and also add godly value to people’s lives. Don’t gain all the followers’ attention and yet bring disrepute and dishonor unto Christ. Don’t let people doubt your Identity as a Christian. God help us. Amen.
